Transponder

A transponder is a device on board a starship, starbase or other spacecraft, which broadcasts a signal identifying that craft, allowing for easy recognition of craft especially at distances where visual inspection or accurate sensor readings are not possible.
In 2377, the USS Excelsior used a transponder signal to find the missing USS Perihelion. (HF 1.05 - "Perihelion")
