Family and Personal Life
A joined Trill, Yanis is the second host to the Caed symbiont. Her first host, Ral, was amongst the 23rd century explorers who first charted the Charybdis Sector, and Caed often seems to know more than she is telling about the area.
Relationships
Yanis first met Daniel Hunter when she was assigned to Tycho Station as a newly commissioned Ensign. When Hunter was later assigned to the Dathon he recommended to Captain Decker that Yanis would make an excellent replacement for the Dathon's departing Operations Officer. After Hunter left the Dathon for an assignment aboard the Nokoni, they kept in touch, but did not meet again until the Intrepid.

Chronology
- 2351: Yanis Kel is born
- 2369: Enters Starfleet Academy.
- 2373: Graduates from Starfleet Academy. Assigned to Operations Department on Tycho Station.
- 2374: Assigned to USS Dathon (NCC-71892) upon recommendation of Daniel Hunter. Promoted to Lieutenant (JG).
- 2375: With the end of the war, Yanis Kel takes a leave of absence to join the Trill Initiate Program, and quickly makes a name for herself.
- 2376: Ral Caed dies from injuries sustained in a shuttle accident. Yanis is named the next host, and joined to the Caed symbiont. Once accustomed to the joining, she returns to active duty on the USS Dathon.
- 2377: Promoted to Lieutenant.
- 2378: Lieutenant Yanis Caed is assigned as Chief Operations Officer for the USS Intrepid
