USS Odyssey (NCC-81302) is a Federation Starfleet vessel under the command of Captain T'Lek. Due to the nature of her mission, most information regarding her systems, crew and mission is highly classified - however, it is an open secret that she employs technology representing the Federation's latest attempt at Transwarp velocities in the form of the Hermes II Quantum Slipstream Drive. In 2384, the Odyssey and her crew was designated as Missing In Action while on a classified mission to the Andromeda Galaxy.

Previous Starfleet Vessels with the name Odyssey

The Galaxy-Class USS Odyssey (Starfleet Registry NCC-71832) was destroyed by a Jem'Hadar fighter in 2370 (DS9: The Jem'Hadar. The destruction of the USS Odyssey was a key factor in starting the Federation-Dominion Cold War.

According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the Galaxy-Class Odyssey was named for the command module of the ill-fated Apollo 13 moon mission. Furthermore, that name was taken from the works of Homer, The Odyssey being the epic tale of Odysseus. The Galaxy-Class Odyssey's dedication plaque bore a quote from Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey: "Its origin and purpose, still a total mystery". (From Memory-Alpha)
