Hidden Frontier fan John Nelson built this scale model of the Excelsior. It can be seen on screen in Captain Shelby's quarters and ready room.

Starting from the very first starships of the fledgling Earth "Starfleet" there has been a long standing tradition of a physical representation of a commanding officer's ship in his or her ready room or personal quarters. This tradition is kept alive in Hidden Frontier by a model of the USS Excelsior displayed in Captain Shelby's quarters.

The USS Excelsior model is a 1/1400 scale AMT USS Enterprise-D kit, built with special resin after-market parts and decals to accurately depict the Galaxy-III Class Dreadnought. The model was built by Phoenix, Ariz., model builder John Nelson (who has also appeared in Hidden Frontier as Gul Malek). Its construction took more than five months to complete and was delivered to producers while "Security Counsel" was in production in Season 5.
