Starfleet Career
Aboard the USS Devonshire
Then-Ensign Witczak was posted to the Devonshire immediately after graduating Starfleet Academy. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2") He served in the Engineering Department during the Battle of Lapolis. He reported to Captain Knapp that the Devonshire's primary power had been restored after being disabled by an attacking Dominion heavy dreadnaught. (HF 1.01 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 1")
Aboard the USS Excelsior
Witczak was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to the USS Excelsior when she was commissioned in 2377. He served under Robin Lefler as herAssistant Chief Engineer. During the preparation to the Battle of Devron, Lieutenant Witczak developed a type of personal shielding for use against the Grey psionic attack. (HF 1.03 - "Enemy Unknown, Part III")
In 2378, he assisted Lieutenant William Martinez in his investigation in the death of a Founder. Witczak determined that the Dominion device shows the desires of some species, such as humans. (HF 2.03 - "Old Wound")
Shortly thereafter, he went with Lefler to help construct a colony on Malaina IV. He transported with Lefler to Sha'kev's vessel to render assistance, but was captured when the distress call was discovered to be a ruse. He was subsequently shot and killed by Sha'kev. His body was never recovered. A memorial marker was been placed on the planet Ba'ku in remembrance of his service in Starfleet. (HF 2.04 - "Great Starship Robbery")
During his time on the Excelsior, he used to do the majority of the minor repairs that helped out Lefler. (HF 3.03 - "Heroes")
Personal Life
- Toby was the son of two Starfleet officers and, thus, he moved around a lot.
- In the their first meeting, Witczak asked Robin Lefler on a date, but she turned him down because she doesn't date coworkers. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2")
- Due to the flirting between Lefler and Lieutenant Luko, he really did not care for Luko's presence. His favorite book was The Hobbit. (HF 2.04 - "Great Starship Robbery")
