Class Specifications

The Sovereign-class has two hull sections: a saucer-shaped primary hull and a secondary hull which mounts the two warp nacelles. In terms of deck layout, the upper sections of the Sovereign-class starship form the command section and living areas, while the lower decks house main engineering and fuel supplies.

The warp engines of the Sovereign are of a new design which eliminates the subspace distortion effects inherent to standard warp drives without the use of variable geometry nacelles (as found on the Intrepid-class). Maximum speed is above Warp 9.

The original specifications of the class called for it to be armed with sixteen phaser arrays and five torpedo tubes (three fore and two aft), including a large quantum torpedo launcher mounted forward of the deflector dish above the captain's yacht, which was capable of firing at least four rounds per second. The Sovereign carries both photon and quantum torpedoes as part of its standard load-out.

Shortly after the resolution of the Dominion War, a retrofit of the class took place. The major changes included adding five decks, five additional torpedo tubes (one fore and four aft) and four additional phaser arrays (one for each warp nacelle pylon, dorsal and ventral). A slight change in the warp nacelle pylons was also implemented.

Class History

The following are notable instances in which Sovereign-class starships participated:

• In 2375, a number of Sovereign-class vessels fought at the Battle of Lapolis. (HF 1.01 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 1")
• In 2377, a Sovereign-class vessel was a part of the Fifth Fleet that took custody of a Grey battleship in orbit of a Tzenkethi colony world. (HF 1.06 - "Echoes")
• In 2378, a number of Sovereign-class vessels fought against the Grey at Ba'ku. (HF 2.01 - "Refugees")
