Shuttlecraft

Shuttlecraft are auxiliary craft typically attached to a starship, starbase or other installation. Most shuttles are themselves short-range starships, possessing only impulse drive or a limited warp capability. Shuttlecraft are often found in use by spacefaring civilizations. They are used in situations where the transporter cannot be used for landings or when such technology does not yet exist.

Shuttlecraft range in size from the larger, longer-range, and more versatile runabout to the small and short-range shuttlepod.
