Red alert (also known as condition red (alert) or code red) is the highest alert status on Starfleet vessels and installations, one stage above yellow alert. When in this state, weapons systems and shields are brought to full power when combat is anticipated. Red alert is also ordered during various other emergency situations, such as when a ship or installation is boarded, during dangerous radiation exposure, massive systems failure, an imminent warp core breach, or an evacuation order among other possible scenarios. During a red alert, lights are often dimmed, klaxons sound, and computer terminals can display constant red graphics, depending on the configuration of the computer system in control of the vessel or installation.
