A rank. Rear Admiral is the second Flag Officer rank in Starfleet. It is most often applied to Commanding Officers aboard starbases and sectors of Federation space, as well as others holding official administrative positions within Starfleet.
This Starfleet rank is designated on the uniform collar by two gold pips encased by a gold rectangle.
