The RMS Titanic sinking in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The RMS (Royal Mail Steamship) Titanic was an ancient Earth ocean liner which sailed on that planet's Atlantic Ocean. The ship carried passengers and mail. The vessel was touted as unsinkable thanks to innovative transverse bulkheads, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City in April, 1912. Originally, 1,523 humans were lost, and 705 were saved. The ship was equipped with only twenty lifeboats, not enough to save even half of the people on board.

A time traveler from the 29th century named Lightoller caused the iceberg to move into the path of the Titanic using a portable tractor beam which he masked by using a dampening field. His motive was to kill a political rival's ancestor. He suceeded because history records that the Titanic sank, but due to the intervention of the timeship Causality and the USS Independence from the 29th and 24th centuries respectively, 85% of those thought lost were saved and later repatriated in the late 24th century.

Commander Joseph Johns was an amateur historian on the Titanic and had built a model of the vessel. (HF 1.04 - "Two Hours")

Notes

According to Johns, the Titanic was the HMS Titanic rather than the RMS Titanic.
