The Prometheus-class Starship
The Prometheus-class is one of the most advanced starship classes fielded by Starfleet in the late 24th century. It is designed with an unprecedented level of automation, and, combined with its advanced tactical systems, is one of the most powerful combat ships in the Alpha Quadrant. It is equipped with advanced phaser arrays, quantum torpedoes, regenerative shields, and ablative hull armor, and its warp engines were designed to outrun even the fastest starship of the Federation fleet.
A unique feature included in the Prometheus' design is its multi-vector assault mode, which allows the ship to split into three semi-independent sections that can each deliver massive force against an enemy target. All three sections are warp-capable. Owing to its extensive automation, a Prometheus-class vessel can be run by as few as four people. In addition, the design features holoemitters on every deck, which allowed the ship's Emergency Medical Hologram to access all areas of the ship.
The USS Prometheus, the prototype vessel of the class, was launched in 2374.
