Petty officer

A rank. Petty Officer refers to a junior non-commissioned officer enlisted into Starfleet service without attending Starfleet Academy and going the route of becoming an officer. This position is higher than the Crewman designation and is directly sub-ordinate to Chief Petty Officer. There are three grades of Petty Officers; from lowest to highest, 3rd Class, 2nd Class, and 1st Class.

A Starfleet rank, this is denoted by a square embroidered logo on the color of the uniform with one, two, or three chevrons to denote grade.
