Time/Place of Death
A resident of New Cydonia on the planet Mars, she died unexpectedly in 2381, during a massive buildup of Tholian forces along the Starfleet blockade of the Briar Patch. ("Epitaph")
History
Paula Shelby was a former instructor at Starfleet Academy. She left the faculty while her daughter, Elizabeth, was still young, taking her to Mars, where she became a teacher to young children. Her students often spoke of loving her like a second mother. She was also known for being old-fashioned, preferring a traditional burial over modern interment methods, such as cremation or being launched into space.
Family Relations
Paula's daughter, Captain Shelby, claimed to have never told her mother that she loved her before she died. This is a source of great stress for the captain.
Paula Shelby's husband, Admiral Shelby, was often busy at work at Starfleet Command, and as such, they did not see much of each other later on in life. It is unknown if they remained married until his death. The date of his death is unknown.
