Multi-vector assault mode is a feature developed by Starfleet for its Prometheus-class starship in the 2370's. A ship capable of multi-vector assault mode could split itself into three separate warp-capable crafts, becoming an entire squadron operating semi-independently, effectively tripling the amount of firepower that could be applied against a target.

Upon ordering multi-vector assault mode, the ship's computer begins a ten-second countdown, going to blue alert in preparation for the ship to separate. Separation is generally performed at sublight speeds, although it can be accomplished at warp velocity as well. On a Prometheus-class starship, the saucer module detaches. If at warp, the saucer will deploy two small warp nacelles; one on the dorsal side just behind the bridge, and the other in the same location on the ventral side of the saucer. This was done to permit the saucer to maintain warp velocity. The secondary hull splits on the X-axis into two parts, each with two of the vessel's four nacelles. Following the separation, the three separate sections can be piloted manually or be controlled by the ship's computer to perform pre-programmed attack patterns. The class is capable of re-connecting itself automatically.
