Metreons are a type of synthetic element created by intense fusion reactions.

Traveling through metreon gas collapses a ships warp field, leaving warp drive functional, but unattainable until the ship leaves the cloud. Impulse drives and phasers are also dangerous to use in a metreon cloud.
