Metaphasic radiation

Metaphasic radiation is a form of energy which, under certain conditions, reverses the aging process of most humanoid species, thereby prolonging the life of those who are exposed to it. Metaphasic radiation also has remarkable regenerative and rejuvenating properties, increasing the metabolism and energy levels of those experiencing its effects. However, this requires constant exposure.
High concentrations of metaphasic radiation were discovered to be contained within the rings of the planet Ba'ku in the Briar Patch in 2375.
Based on research conducted on Ba'ku by a Starfleet science team including then-Ensign Artim Ibanya, it was determined in mid-2378 that an obscure element, RJ231, was responsible for regenerating organic DNA and cleaning out free radicals in the bodies of those effected. In its pure form, RJ231 is lethal to organic life. Only when diffused through Ba'ku's planetary atmosphere, do its healing effects become apparent.
