Starfleet Career

After graduating with high honors from Starfleet Academy, Dr. Abney completed her medical studies at Starfleet Medical, specializing in neuropsychology, and doing her residency on Betazed. She is a Lieutenant, junior grade. The Excelsior is her first posting on a ship of the line.

Her first notable act was successfully assisting Dr. Henglaar in the emergency care of Counselor Myra Elbrey, who had been brutally attacked by the rogue telepath Milo Surgant. Her knowledge of Betazoid physiology combined with an unusually effective appeal to Doctor Henglaar (who was resistant to allowing any other doctor to assist him) enabled them both to save Elbrey's life.

Personal History

Then-Lieutenant Matt McCabe once thought that Dr. Abney was attracted to him because she asked him to cough not once, but twice, during a routine medical examination. (HF 7.02 - "Bound")
