Matt McCabe (Wayne Webb) is a 24th century Starfleet Lieutenant Commander, who serves as Chief Tactical Officer aboard the USS Excelsior.

Starfleet Career
Starfleet Academy
McCabe attended the Academy at the same time as Corey Aster, Andrew Barrett, Marla Durkos, Jenna McFarland, Brad Rawlins, and Ro Nevin.
USS Independence
Served as Chief Tactical Officer under Commodore Jennifer Cole aboard the USS Independence until he was reassigned to the Excelsior in 2379.
USS Excelsior
McCabe joined the crew of the Excelsior under orders from Commander Tolian Naros in 2379, due to his preliminary investigations into the Patch artifacts ("Modus Operandi"), that he had helped discover while onboard the USS Independence under Commodore Cole. Ambitious, he had his eyes on the available First Officer position, just after his reassignment, but instead settled into the position of Security Chief, once Lieutenant Luko was promoted and reassigned to command of the USS Ranger.
McCabe was arrested in 2381 on Vrijheid IV for reopening a closed investigation when he found violations of its citizens' civil liberties by that planet's government and was only released by "bullying" from Commodore Knapp ("Security Counsel"). He was later placed on detached duty aboard the Excelsior in 2382 while assisting the new Grey Research Facility with its research ("Homeport"). This was assigned as a "punishment duty", since he inadvertantly let his curiosity get the better of him while at DS12, which led to him and several Excelsior officers uncovering the location of the Facility on the station itself.
Grey Research Facility
McCabe is currently assigned to the research facility, but serves on detached duty on board the USS Excelsior. After battling some severe emotional problems after the loss of his friend, Andrew Barrett, to enemy forces, McCabe has finally gotten back on an even keel, helped with the return on Barrett. By the time of Excelsior's relaunch after damage sustained during the final battle of the Briar Patch, McCabe had been promoted to Lieutenant Commander.
