Personal History

In 2379, he led the Cardassian forces at the edge of the Briar Patch after they discovered a Tetrahedron. He ordered the withdrawal of Cardassian forces away from Son'a space. (HF 3.05 "Modus Operandi")

Malek was the Cardassian officer in charge of ascertaining the identity of a rogue starship (now known to have been the USS Columbia, Nicolas Roberts commanding). The rogue was reported to have been destroyed while engaging the Perdition, yet little wreckage was ever found ("Piracy of the Noble"). Malek also was involved in defending the Cardassian-held tetrahedron, which was lost to a Tholian task force in 2380 ("Crossroads").

Production Notes

  • "Piracy of the Noble" featured the debut of John Whiting's Cardassian makeup, giving John Nelson the chance to portray Malek in person. Nelson was unavailable to reprise the role for Malek's third appearance, so the part was recast with actor Travis Sentell. Sentell also played Bajoran Vedek Ro Danar in "Grave Matters."

Appearances

Gul Malek's first appearance featured actor Jonathan Foertsch in a mask, with the voice of John Nelson.

With the development of John Whiting's Cardassian makeup, Gul Malek was then played by John Nelson. He later reprised the role during Hidden Frontier's seventh season.

The role of Gul Malek was also played by Travis Sentell on Star Trek: Hidden Frontier.

Gul Malek was also played by W. Jay Moore on Star Trek: Hidden Frontier.
