Gul Malek (John Nelson, Travis Sentell) is a Cardassian gul in the Central Command, and an ambassador (though he has not shown many "diplomatic" skills) to the Federation. He was currently in command of the Cardassian Galor-class crusier Perdition, Malek has proven at times to be a formidable adversary.
Malek has the uncanny ability to show up whenever the Cardassians are up to something (usually no good). He also has been involved with many disputes within the Patch, usually arguing quite loudly with Son'a Ambassador O'Faur.
Malek was the Cardassian officer in charge of ascertaining the identity of a rogue starship (now known to have been the USS Columbia, Nicolas Roberts commanding). The rogue was reported to have been destroyed while engaging the Perdition, yet little wreckage was ever found ("Piracy of the Noble"). Malek also was involved in defending the Cardassian-held tetrahedron, which was lost to a Tholian task force in 2380 ("Crossroads").
Production Notes
- "Piracy of the Noble" featured the debut of John Whiting's Cardassian makeup, giving John Nelson the chance to portray Malek in person. Nelson was unavailable to reprise the role for Malek's third appearance, so the part was recast with actor Travis Sentell. Sentell also played Bajoran Vedek Ro Danar in "Grave Matters."
Appearances
Gul Malek's first appearance featured actor Jonathan Foertsch in a mask, with the voice of John Nelson.
