The Luna-class Starship

The Luna-class explorer is a Federation starship class that was introduced into service during the late 24th Century. It was initially conceived for scientific exploration of the Gamma Quadrant following the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole. The project was sidelined by the impending threat from the Dominion, then restarted following the end of the Dominion War.

Each has an average crew of 350 and is approximately 450 meters long. Their shuttlebays are reminiscent of the old Constitution-class' shuttlebays, having a more rounded opening door. They also feature a longer "runway" for shuttles as they enter and exit the ship.

All Luna-class starships are named after moons. The initial production lot is named after moons in the Sol system.

Production Notes

  • The Luna-class starship made its video premiere in Star Trek: Operation Beta Shield. It was designed by Sean Tourangeau who designed the model as part of a contest held by Pocket Books ahead of its launch of the Star Trek: Titan series of books.
