Starfleet Career
Aboard the Enterprise-D
Lefler served aboard the Enterprise-D in 2368, under Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge. She had a brief but passionate encounter with Starfleet Academy cadet Wesley Crusher, who was on leave at the time. She served as a Mission Specialist for a mission exploring the Phoenix Cluster. Together, they managed to foil a plot to hijack the Enterprise. (TNG 5.06 - "The Game") Later, she would tell Lieutenant Toby Witczak that La Forge taught her "everything she knew." (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2")
Aboard the Excalibur
During her time aboard the Excalibur, Lefler forged a friendship with the ship's first officer, Commander Elizabeth Shelby, while serving as Operations Officer and head of the department. She got on with all the other senior officers, most notably Lieutenants Mark McHenry and Soleta. Eventually, she proved herself a capable engineer in her own right, having learned on the Enterprise-D under Geordi La Forge, and then under Lieutenant Commander Burgoyne 132 on the Excalibur. She was assigned to the graveyard shift. (Star Trek: New Frontier book series and HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part II")
Aboard the Excelsior
2377
Lefler was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and transferred to the USS Excelsior. She was assigned the position of Chief Engineer, the first time she had ever held such a post. One of her first official acts as Chief Engineer was to order a partial replacement of bio-neural circuitry that Lieutenant Toby Witczak had troubleshooted as the source of a system failure which was causing difficulty in aligning the ship's torque sensors. The gel packs were replaced with older-model isolinear circuitry. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part II") Lefler helped prepare the Excelsior just prior to the Battle of Devron, which included to help the Excelsior appear damaged to implementing Lieutenant Witczak's shielding techniques. During the battle, Lefler helped the Excelsior escape the Grey tractor beam. (HF 1.03 - "Enemy Unknown, Part III")
Lefler was a part of the away team that went to the USS Perihelion, and helped recover the ship's logs. (HF 1.05 - "Perihelion") In preparation of the battle against a Grey battleship, Lefler and her team were able to develop a neural destabilizer to block the Grey's psionic attack, but that would only work on those who had not already been taken captive. Lefler approved the use of a nanite weapon developed by Wesley Crusher. (HF 1.06 - "Echoes")
2378
Lefler and Witczak went to Malaina IV to assist in the construction of a new colony. Lieutenant Luko, the new security chief of the Excelsior, joined them on the return trip. She flirted with Luko, to the frustration of Witczak. Upon receiving a ship's distress call, Lefler transported over to the vessel with Witczak in order to render assistance. They were captured along with Luko. After Witczak was killed and Luko was injured,Sha'Kev forced her to retrieve trilithium from the derelict USS Maverick. She was rescued by the timely arrival of the Excelsior. She erected a memorial to Witczak on Ba'ku, where she read his favorite book. (HF 2.01 - "Great Starship Robbery")
Lefler would later work with Luko to help catalog the wreckage of the SS Encke during the investigation into the vessel's loss at Osiris III. When Ensign Ro Nevin brought his theory about hyperdimensional physics to her, she was skeptical at first, but later used the theory to send an electromagnetic pulse that revealed the existence of tetrahedrons. (HF 2.05 "Encke")
She served with distinction in her new role, proving herself a competent department head, to the point where Shelby was ready to appoint her First Officer, until Tolian Naros was assigned to the position by Starfleet Command. Eventually, Naros was reassigned to his own command, Lefler finally made the switch from engineering to command, leaving her beloved engines in the capable hand of Corey Aster, her assistant chief. However she did have some transition trouble, and continued to hound Corey Aster before he finally confronted her about this behavior.
Aboard the Helena
Personal Life
Lefler enjoyed playing poker with her fellow crewmates. (HF 1.05 - "Perihelion") She enjoys helping to set up new colonies, but misses the comforts of a starship. She enjoys a good Blood Wine with her steak. Upon meeting Luko, she flirted with him and she made plans to eat dinner with him, but decided to catch up on some rest. After Witczak was killed, she regretted not returning his feelings and at least went to dinner with him. (HF 2.01 - "Great Starship Robbery")
