John Edward Knapp was the twin brother of now-Rear Admiral Ian Quincy Knapp, former Commander of Deep Space 12.

Starfleet Career

John was killed during the Dominion War. (HF 1.01 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 1" and HF 2.02 - "Yesterday's Excelsior")

Personal Life

At one time, John may have had a relationship with Rear Admiral Jennifer Cole. After each of them got their respective commands, John and Jennifer grew apart. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2")

Knapp enjoyed Romulan Ale and he was able to procure through a dealer, who later dealt with Knapp's brother, Ian. (HF 2.02 - "Yesterday's Excelsior") Ever since his death, Ian has dealt with many issues that he kept to himself but they are well-known. These issues nearly coast Ian his rank. (HF 2.03 - "Old Wound" and HF 2.08 "Coward's Death")

Alternate Timeline

When the original USS Excelsior fell through a temporal anomaly, it resulted an in alternate timeline, where the Federation laid waste to the Klingon Empire in response to the assassination of the President of the United Federation of Planets. The Q, as punishment, led the Borg to the Federation, who then decimated both the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, after which only a handful of ships remained. This fleet, under the overall command of Admiral Alynna Nechayev, was led by Captain John Edward Knapp, in command of the Galaxy III-class USS Excelsior.

Captain Knapp fought at the Battle of Wolf 359, Lapolis, and Setlik III where he had send people to their deaths. He attempted to take command of the fleet after Admiral Nechayev expressed her intent to enter Borg territory for dilithium, but he was killed by Lieutenant Martinez while resisting arrest after Captain James Darwin relieved him of duty on grounds. (HF 2.02 - "Yesterday's Excelsior")
