Starfleet Career
Starfleet Academy
Jason attended Starfleet Academy at the same time as Jenna McFarland, Marla Durkos and Corey Aster, whom he also shared a room with. He also was a student in Myra Elbrey's Tactical Psychology class.
Munoz's parents were against him serving in Starfleet, and did not write to him during the Dominion War. (ANG 1.01 - "Return to Duty")
Aboard the USS Angeles
Served under Captain Janice Willcocks - Commanding Officer of the USS Angeles. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2") While initially a helm officer, he was transferred to the Security department during the crisis that resulted in the death of John Knapp, Ian Knapp's brother. (USS Angeles: The Price of Duty)
Munoz was offered a position on the USS Pathfinder, but turned the position down to become the TAC/SEC aboard the Angeles. His first away mission was serving as part of a rescue team that recovered the crew of the USS Macross, which was under attack by Tzenkethi pirates. The Angeles was also assigned to the Ba'ku system as field support for the construction of Deep Space 12. (ANG 1.01 - "Return to Duty")
About six months afterward, Munoz and Lieutenant Commander Sou attempted to find a way to dissipate a plasma storm threatening Ba'ku but the storm emitted a graviton beam that forced them eject the warp core of the Angeles. (ANG 1.02 - "A Little Night Music")
While on station, under the overall command of then-Fleet Captain Jennifer Cole, Munoz was assigned to survey team duty. During his stints on the planet surface, he befriended Artim Ibanya, a young Ba'ku boy, who dreamed of seeing the stars. They became close, and Munoz helped save Artim's life during a run-in with Breen. Munoz was instrumental in Artim's successful application to the Academy at the age of 14, and the two remained friends once Artim headed of to Earth. (ANG 1.03 - "Dreamers" and HF 2.06 - "To The Stars")
While with the Angeles, Munoz pursued and obtained his Command certifications. He was given temporary command of the USS Olympus. He was assisted in this effort by a "senior staff" made up of some of his friends from the Academy, such as Corey Aster and Jenna McFarland. During this assignment, before their time on Excelsior, they encountered a planet that was trapped in a time loop by the Q, where it was constantly assimilated by the Borg, only to reply those terrifying days over and over. By solving the Q's riddle and stopping and destroying a Borg cube. This impressed both the Q, who allowed the planet to return to normal, and Admiral Viek. (ANG 1.04 - "Q in the Dark" and HF 3.06 - "In Memory Of")
Aboard the USS Excelsior
Shortly after obtaining those certifications, and with a recommendation from Captain Willcocks, he was assigned as Acting First Officer of the USS Excelsior in 2377. He held the rank of Lieutenant Commander at the time of his posting to the Excelsior. By accepting the posting, he once again changed uniform color, a point Dr. Henglaar teased him on after his transfer to Excelsior. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2")
During the Battle of Devron, Munoz took command of the Excelsior after Captain Knapp was captured by the Grey. He transferred command of the task force to Captain T'Kell so the he could formulate a plan to rescue Knapp. Through his leadership, Knapp was rescued and the Grey retreated in the aftermath. (HF 1.03 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 3")
Aboard the USS Olympus
By Stardate 54529.1, Munoz had been awarded with a post-captaincy of his own, the USS Olympus. A Prometheus-class starship, capable of multi-vector assault mode, was a small ship, but one that Munoz had history with - he had completed his command certification aboard her. (HF 2.01 - "Refugees")
Unfortunately, Munoz only commanded the Olympus for little more than a year. Assigned to the fleet that fought off a Grey attack on Deep Space 12, the Olympus was one of the ships lost during the encounter. Many officers on Excelsior took his sudden death hard. Then-Commodore Knapp delievered a moving speech for his former first officer, but they all knew he had died protecting a Federation he loved, and would have wanted to go out that way.
