Served under Captain Janice Willcocks - CO, USS Angeles. (HF102, "Enemy Unknown, Part 2") While initially a helm officer, he was transferred to the Security department during the crisis that resulted in the death of John Knapp, Ian Knapp's brother ([[USS Angeles]]: The Price of Duty). The Angeles was also assigned to the Ba'ku system as field support for the construction of Deep Space 12, and while on station there, under the overal command of Fleet Captain Jennifer Cole, Munoz was assigned to survey team duty. During his stints on the planet surface, he befriended Artim Ibanya, a young Ba'ku boy, who dreamed of seeing the stars. They became close, and Munoz helped save Artim's life during a run-in with Breen at Ba'ku. Eventually, Munoz helped Artim apply to the Academy at the age of 14, and the two remained friends once Artim headed of to Earth (To The Stars).

While with the Angeles, Munoz pursued, and obtained, his Command certifications. (In Memory Of) Shortly after obtaining his certifications, he was entered into the pool of candidates to serve as the XO of a capital ship. Due to this, and a recommendation from Captain Willcocks, he was assigned as first officer of the USS Excelsior in 2377. (HF102, "Enemy Unknown, Part 2"). He held the rank of Lieutenant Commander at the time of his posting to the Excelsior. By accepting the posting, he once again changed uniform colour, a point Dr. Henglaar teased him on after his transfer to Excelsior.

Aboard the USS Excelsior

Munoz only served briefly on the Galaxy III-class Excelsior, quickly proving himself an able commander and sound tactican during the contact the ship had with the Grey Confederacy, during which time Captain Knapp was briefly abducted. He commanded the ship during the rescue effort, and by Stardate 54529.1, Munoz had been awarded with a command of his own, the USS Olympus. Since the ship was only a small tactical cruiser, he retained his rank of Lieutenant Commander (like Luko when he transfered to the USS Ranger)

Aboard the USS Olympus

The Olympus, a Prometheus-class starship, capable of multi-vector assault mode, was a small ship, which Munoz had history with - he had completed his command certfication onboard, assisted with a senior staff made up of some of his Academy friends, such as Corey Aster and Jenna McFarland. During this assignment, before their time on Excelsior, they encountered a planet that was trapped in a time loop by the Q-Continuum, where it was constantly assimilated by the Borg, only to reply those terrifying days over and over. By solving their riddle, and stopping and destroying a Borg cube, Munoz managed to convince the Q to return the planet to normal. Unfortunately, Munoz only commanded the Olympus for little more then a year. Assigned to the fleet that fought off a Grey attack on Deep Space Twelve, the Olympus was one of the ships lost during the encounter. Many officers on Excelsior took his sudden death hard, and Knapp delievered a moving speech for his former first officer, but they all knew he had died protecting a Federation he loved, and would have wanted to go that way.
