Starfleet Career
In 2293, James T. Kirk held the rank of Captain and was in command of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A). He pushed the Enterprise nearly to the breaking point in order to reach Khitomer to assist the USS Excelsior in foiling a plot to assassinate the President of the United Federation of Planets. Alternate Timeline
In an alternate timeline, where the Excelsior failed to show up at Khitomer owing to its disappearance through a time vortex, Kirk was killed when the Enterprise was destroyed by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey. This eventually led to a war between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. (HF 2.02 - "Yesterday's Excelsior")
