Jago Merik is a native of Izar, and the archetypical Merchant Service Captain. Popular with his crew, he runs a relaxed ship. Merik is a man who relishes the opportunity to explore the galaxy, but prefers the less rigid practices of the merchant service. He considers 'his' service the backbone of the Federation, and has often been heard to comment that it is they "who do all the real work", as opposed to Starfleet who consider themselves the elite.
