High resolution refers to video encoded at higher bit rates and pixel sizes. The resulting QuickTime files appear larger on a computer screen, with greater detail in the image. Hidden Frontier’s high-resolution video is 640x360 pixels; episodes are normally released at half that size, 320x180 pixels.
In order to minimize our risk of raising the ire of Paramount Studios, the owner of the Star Trek copyright and trademarks, Hidden Frontier produces most things in low resolution to prevent the possibility that people may put high-resolution copies of episodes on DVD and then sell them. Don't laugh. It's happened.
However, Hidden Frontier’s producers started distributing episode trailers in high resolution, beginning in Season 5 with "Epitaph." Special episodes, like season premieres and finales, will be released in high resolution as well. At this point, four episodes have been released in high resolution, "Countermeasures", "Her Battle Lanterns Lit", "Heavy Losses", and the special edition of "Two Hours".
