The Grey battleship is the largest known vessel in the Grey's fleet. It possesses biomechanical armor, which allows it to have nominal shielding. It is known to have powerful beam/directed energy weaponry. No missile-type weaponry akin to a quantum torpedo has been observed. The vessel's armor can regenerate in the presence of the Briar Patch's metaphasic radiation.
The battleship's shielding originally had an exploitable hole in the theta band. (HF 1.03 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 3") After the Battle of Devron, this flaw was corrected. (HF 1.06 - "Echoes")
These vessels are operated through the psionic powers of the Ethereals who control them. Disrupting this control renders the ship vulnerable to attack. (HF 1.06 - "Echoes")
Notable Encounters
The following are notable instances in which Grey battleships participated:
- In 2375, a Grey battleship was sent to the McAllister Nebula and the vessel destroyed a Dominion heavy dreadnaught, a Cardassian Galor-class destroyer, and the USS Rutledge. The battleship was destroyed when the USS Devonshire rammed the battleship and auto-destructed at the same time. (HF 1.01 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 1")
- In 2377, a Grey battleship fought against Federation forces at the Battle of Devron. The USS Katana was captured, along with Captain Ian Quincy Knapp from the Excelsior. He was subsequently rescued by his crew. The vessel was heavily damaged and retreated into the Briar Patch along with the captured Katana. (HF 1.03 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 3")
- Later in 2377, a Grey battleship attacked a Tzenkethi colony world one light-year from Deep Space 12. The Excelsior was sent in response. The Excelsior was able to stop the attack by deploying a neural destabilizer. Wesley Crusher developed nanites which were used to disable and permit the capture of the battleship. The Ethereals aboard killed themselves after the ship was disabled. The vessel was later towed to a secure location by the Fifth Fleet and Starfleet Intelligence. (HF 1.06 - "Echoes")
- In 2378, a single battleship took part in the battle over Ba'ku against Federation forces. It was destroyed toward the end of the battle when Aris and Ensign Artim Ibanya "folded" their commandeered Grey wing into the center of the ship. (HF 2.01 - "Refugees")
- Later in 2378, a Grey battleship was temporarily disabled by the Excelsior during a testing of a new device developed by the Dominion. (HF 2.03 - "Old Wound")
- Three Grey battleships bracketed and attacked Deep Space 12 in late 2378/early 2379. They fought to a draw until then-Captain Ian Quincy Knapp used a Tren'La fold-ship to capture the battleships in a "pocket fold". (HF 3.01 - "Worst Fears, Part 2")
