Grey Research Facility II
From Hidden Frontier
Starfleet's Grey Research Facility is a top-secret installation, its location classified, dedicated to unlocking the secrets of the Grey's technology in order to help the Federation better defend itself against the Grey. Because of the connection of the Grey to the tetrahedrons, the facility also leads the Federation's efforts to research the purpose and function of these mysterious, powerful and impossibly ancient alien artifacts, especially in the face of a similar effort by the newly aggressive Tholians.

Mission
With the loss of the Grey battleship, the Cardassian-held tetrahedron and the tetrahedron keys to Siroc and the Tholians, the new research facility has had to focus on tetrahedron data gathered by Commander Naros and the crew of the Excelsior and the damaged tetrahedron discovered by Commodore Knapp and Lieutenant McCabe under the ocean on the planet Ba'ku. ("Entanglement, Part 2")
Location
The research station is the second Grey Research Facility. The first station was destroyed in 2379 in a sneak attack sponsored by the Tholians and carried out by Sha'kev and his Orion pirates. All of the research station's personnel were killed in the attack. Only a small group, which was traveling away from the facility, survived. Excelsior‘s former tactical officer, Lieutenant Commander William Martinez, was among those survivors.
The new research facility was built in a location that is an even more tightly guarded secret than the first station. The loss of so many personnel temporarily stalled Starfleet's research. Martinez was promoted to Commander to lead Starfleet's renewed research efforts. ("Dancing in the Dark")
Activities
Martinez and the surviving researchers have re-focused their efforts on processing the data that has been gathered by the crew of the Excelsior and other investigators. He has recruited the brightest young minds in Starfleet to aid in this effort. He works closely with Commander Naros to gather new intelligence and field data. Starfleet Command has authorized him to issue orders to Naros when necessary. Naros is under standing orders to deliver any new information he or the Excelsior‘s crew develops to the research facility.
