A rank. Chief Petty Officer refers to a non-commissioned officer enlisted into Starfleet service without attending Starfleet Academy and going the route of becoming an officer. This position is senior to the Petty Officer designation and directly subordinate to a Senior Chief Petty Officer.

A Starfleet rank, this is denoted by a square emboridered logo on the color of the uniform with three chevrons and a dot.
