Canon Characters
From Hidden Frontier
Hidden Frontier has made use of several characters who are part of Star Trek canon (i.e., Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) over the years. Among them:
- Elizabeth Shelby
- Admiral Nechayev
- Robin Lefler
- Wesley Crusher
- Kira Nerys
- Artim Ibanya and his father Sojef
Producers believed that use of these characters would provide some continuity between mainstream Star Trek and Hidden Frontier, and to give viewers a stronger empathy for the show.

Controversy
Seeing established characters portrayed by new actors is something of dilemma for some viewers, who find the new faces difficult to get used to, even while otherwise being fans of Hidden Frontier.
