History

The Borg assimilating Captain James Darwin in an alternate timeline. (HF 2.02 - "Yesterday's Excelsior")

Little is known about the actualy history of the Borg race.

After the Federation encountered the Borg years before it would have naturally occurred due to interference from a member of the Q Continuum, the Borg attempted to travel to Earth, resulting in the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2367. (TNG 3.26 and 4.01 - "Best of Both Worlds") They attempted a second invasion in 2373, resulting in the Battle of Sector 001 and a failed attempt to alter Earth's history by preventing humanity's first contact with the Vulcans. (Star Trek: First Contact)

In 2377, the USS Voyager brought back technology from an alternative future and used to aid in their early return from the Delta Quadrant (VOY 7.25 - "Endgame").

In 2379, the Voyager technology helped save many, but not all lives during a Borg assault on Farpoint Station located on Deneb IV. (HF 3.04 - "In Memory Of")

Impact of Borg on the USS Excelsior Crew

Particle 0-1-0

The Borg have come to treat Particle 0-1-0, known to Starfleet as the Omega molecule, with an almost reverence. The Borg see the Omega molecule as the epitome of perfection. (VOY 4.21 - "The Omega Directive")

Alternate Timeline

When the original USS Excelsior fell through a temporal anomaly, it resulted an in altered history, where the Federation laid waste to the Klingon Empire in revenge for the assassination of the Federation President. The Q, as punishment, led the Borg to the Federation. They then decimated both the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, after which only a handful of ships remained. This fleet, under the overall command of Admiral Alynna Nechayev, was led by Captain John Edward Knapp, in command of the Galaxy III-class USS Excelsior. The Borg were relentless in pursuing the survivors to the point, where the Excelsior had to use a transwarp conduit to escape them. (HF 2.02 - "Yesterday's Excelsior")
