Battle of Lapolis

From Hidden Frontier

The turning point in the Dominion War, the Battle of Lapolis was fought in 2375 in the Lapolis system. Outnumbered and outgunned, the Dominion Forces put up a valiant fight but ultimately lost the battle to the allied forces of the Federation, Romulans, and Klingons.

Admiral Roth coordinated the attack for the allied forces. The USS Devonshire, under the command of Captain Ian Quincy Knapp, also played a major role in the battle.

First Contact with the Grey Confederacy

During the battle, a Cardassian Galor-class warship and a Dominion heavy dreadnaught broke away from the main battle and attempted to reach the McAllister Nebula. The Devonshire, along with the USS Rutledge and USS Tiananmen pursued the fleeing vessels. The Dominion dreadnaught managed to destroy the Tiananmen with the loss of all hands on board. The Devonshire was temporarily disabled in the same attack but the Rutledge managed to maintain pursuit of the Cardassian warship into the nebula.

After the Devonshire's systems were restored, they followed the ion trail of the Dominion dreadnaught into the nebula only to find the vessel destroyed and nothing but a debris field remaining. They managed to locate and track the ion trail of the Rutledge. They discover the Cardassian warship also destroyed and the Rutledge physically untouched. An away team from the Devonshire was dispatched to the Rutledge. They found only one surviving member of the crew, a Betazoid Lieutenant, Myra Elbrey, who had mentally protected herself from the attack. The attacking species has since come to be known as the Grey Confederacy. The Grey used psionic attacks to bend the will of the crew to do their bidding.

While the away team was on the Rutledge, a Grey vessel began a second attack, and abducted two of the three members of the away team. Only Dr. Henglaar, a Tellarite, was able to withstand this attack. Henglaar and Elbrey managed to beam back to the Devonshire and raise its shields after a brief confrontation with another member of the Grey. Raising the shields managed to block the psionic attacks of the Grey. The Grey subsequently managed to destroy the adrift Rutledge and disable the sheilds of the Devonshire.

As a last-ditch effort to save his crew, Captain Knapp ordered the Devonishire's auto-destruct sequence activated and a collision course set with the pursuing Grey vessel. The majority of the crew managed to escape in various shuttles and escape pods while the Devonshire collided with and destroyed the Grey vessel.
