Battle of Devron

The Battle of Devron was the first major fleet action between Federation forces and the Grey Confederacy after two years of Grey raids on Federation shipping and colony worlds that bordered the Briar Patch.

Prelude
In 2377, a colony ship in the Corinthius system was attacked and destroyed by a Grey vessel. This prompted Starfleet Command to dispatch the USS Excelsior and a task force to the Devron system near the Briar Patch. (HF 1.02 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 2")
The Battle

The Excelsior met with the task force prior to forcing a meeting with the Grey to attempt first contact. The Excelsior shutdown all systems and sent a fake distress call in the style of the Kobayashi Maru scenario in an attempt to lure a Grey battleship. The Excelsior set up various shields (developed by Lieutenant Toby Witczak) around the critical areas except for the bridge.
The battleship arrived and beamed over a footsoldier, but it was captured by the crew of the Excelsior. The battleship opened fire on the Excelsior just as the task force arrived. The battleship was weakened by not being in the Briar Patch, where the metaphasic radiation strengthened their biomechanical hull plating. The task force was able to heavily damage the battleship, until the battleship went towards the Patch to strengthen their hull. The USS Katana's shields went down and the vessel was captured by the Grey, who took the entire crew and the Katana into the Patch.

The Excelsior was caught in a tractor beam and Captain Ian Quincy Knapp was captured by the Grey after the Excelsior's shields were taken down. Lieutenant Commander Jason Munoz transferred command of the task force to Captain T'Kell, who retreated with the rest of the task force per Knapp's final command before his capture. Rayvan and Dr. Henglaar, with help from Counselor Myra Elbrey and Lieutenant Witczak, were able to produce a psionic inhibitor against the Grey Ethereals, who held Knapp captive. Ensign Ro Nevin discovered a theta-band hole in the battleship's shields which was used in conjunction with the inhibitor to "daze" the Ethereals, permitting Knapp's rescue.
The Excelsior was able to regain its shields and resume fire upon the battleship. With the task force returning at top speed, the battleship left for the Briar Patch. The task force subsequently returned to Deep Space 12. (HF 1.03 - "Enemy Unknown, Part 3")
In the aftermath of the battle, due to the extent of the battle, the Excelsior was under repair for several weeks. (HF 1.04 - "Two Hours")
