Battle of Ayre

The Battle of Ayre was fought between the Breen Confederacy and the Guardian of Ayre (Iconian) with the Federation lending support in the second part of the battle over the Iconian technology on the planet, Ayre in 2376.

First Half

A fleet of twelve Breen warships discover the ruins on the planet and they bombard the planet in order to salvage the technology amongst the ruins. The bombardment awaken Rayvan, the last of the Iconian Guardians. He activated the dormant Iconian starship, Defender, which was cloaked in orbit of the planet. The Defender attacked and destroyed the Breen fleet, leaving only wreckage. This action was noticed by the Federation starship, USS Angeles under the command of Captain Janice Willcocks, who noticed the energy signatures. The Angeles went to the planet and discovered the wreckage of the Breen fleet in orbit.

Second Half

A second fleet of twelve Breen warships was sent to the planet in order to investigate the disappearance of the first fleet and take the technology on the planet. The Angeles and the Defender moved to stop the fleet from landing on the planet. The Angeles launched Banzai-class fighters and a Federation mission scout to help against the Breen. The Angeles came under fire first and the vessel was able to destroy a Breen vessel.

The fighters raged a massive attack on the fleet and a number of the fighters were destroyed during run, but another warship was destroyed. By this time, the Defender moved into position and inflicted massive damage to the Breen warships by using its particle weapons. Rayvan ordered the Angeles to back off and the Defender used one last maneuver that heavily damaged the surviving Breen warships. The Breen retreated from the system.

In order to keep the Iconian technology out of anybody else's hands, Rayvan scuttled the Defender and destroyed the planet. (ANG 1.05 "The Last of the Iconians")
