Auto-destruct sequence

A starship's auto-destruct sequence is the means by which a ship can, as a last resort, be scuttled or destroyed, should it be in danger of falling into enemy hands. Depending on the class of ship, a differing number of officers (two or three), including the commanding officer, are required to authorize the sequence in order for it to be engaged. Such activation requires voiceprint authorization and may require either the recitation of command codes and/or palmprint authentication.
Auto-destruct can take place either via an intentional overload of a ship's warp core or through the detonation of charges placed throughout the ship, depending on the vessel's design.
