Personal History

During a tense encounter with a rogue Breen officer, Artim and the counselor of Deep Space 12, Katherine Moss, were kidnapped, and when the Breen attempted to kill Counselor Moss, Artim took on the blast instead. He died in Sickbay of the USS Independence, but Munoz took him back to Ba'ku, and the metaphasic radiation not only restored him to life, but healed his injury as well. He also found out that the mother whom he had been told had died early in his life, had actually willingly left Ba'ku, to join Starfleet, and this sealed his decision to join up as well, despite only being 14.

Starfleet Career

Starfleet Academy

Artim, as a gifted student, was able to enter Starfleet Academy at age 14 in 2376. He finished the Academy in a record two years, graduating at the age of 16 in 2378. When he arrived on DS12 as part of the medical science team investigating Ba'ku, he still had a few supplemental courses outstanding to finish. The mental discipline all Ba'ku natives learn naturally may have helped in his academic progress, as Artim not only excelled in scientifics studies, but became a very proficient pilot as well.

Ba'ku Science Team

In 2378, after graduating from the Academy, Artim was assigned to his home planet of Ba'ku to study the planet's unique metaphasic rings. Shortly thereafter, he befriended Aris and together visited to the planet's surface. During this trip, Artim and Aris discovered a Grey raiding party on the planet. They commandeered a Grey wing. After warning Deep Space 12 of a terror team on the planet's surface, they proceeded to destroy an attacking Grey battleship by "folding" the Grey wing into the heart of the battleship.. (HF 2.01 - "Refugees").

The initial Starfleet science team disbanded several months later after a breakthrough in their research. This research was assumed by Starfleet Medical so that a practical way of recreating the healing effects of Ba'ku's metaphasic rings could be developed. Artim was offered a science position on Danula II. He considered the offer, until, discussing his situation with Counselor Myra Elbrey, he realized he wanted to be working in space, exploring, not stuck planetside. He met with Captain Knapp and requested a position aboard the Excelsior. His request was granted, being placed on Ensign Jenna McFarland's helm detail with a notation that his time could be split with Ensign Ro Nevin's science teams as needed. (HF 2.06 - "To The Stars")

Aboard the USS Excelsior

A year later, Artim began to work with Commander Tolian Naros because of his helm and science experience. He assisted in various classified Starfleet missions (Modus Operandi), including an excursion that lead the Excelsion to a planetary system in the Briar Patch that contained a Dyson Sphere, in which the Grey resided. When Siroc began searching for a subspace current that would lead him to the Grey's Dyson Sphere, Artim was assigned elsewhere, in case Siroc came looking for Artim to use his previous knowledge, since he had been there with Naros and Counselor Elbrey.

Aboard the USS Helena

Prior to his disappearance at the end of the Tholian/Breen conflict that concludes the Hidden Frontier series, Tolian Naros had been preparing to request that Artim be permanently assigned to Helena as a Helm/Ops officer. After taking command of the ship, new Captain Theresa Faisal followed up on a number of Naros's crew recommendations, including the one regarding Artim.

Appearances

Lieutenant Ibanya was played by Michael Welch in his appearance in Star Trek: Insurrection and by Beau Williams in his appearances on Star Trek: Hidden Frontier and Star Trek: The Helena Chronicles.
