Starfleet Career
Aboard the USS Alliance
Cole commanded this vessel prior to her assignment aboard DS12, where she served with Commander Alysen Ibanya, mother of Ensign Artim Ibanya, some of the only Ba'ku people to leave their secluded planet.
At Deep Space 12
Cole was assigned to Deep Space 12 as station commander. In 2377, she was transferred to the USS Angeles and command of DS12 was given to longtime friend Ian Quincy Knapp.
Aboard the USS Angeles
Cole participate in a a training voyage in 2377, alongside the commanding officer of the Angeles, Fleet Captain Janice Willcocks. She was later promoted to Commodore, and was a part of the Board of Inquiry convened aboard Deep Space Twelve regarding Captain Knapp's involvement in the death of a Dominion Ambassador. She was later reassigned to command of the Sovereign-class USS Independence
Aboard the USS Independence
During her time aboard the Sovereign-class vessel, Cole and her crew helped to unravel some of the mysteries of the Brair Patch, when they confiscated what were later realised to be tetrahderon keys from a known pirate. She was also involved in many conflicts during her time stationed in the Briar Patch, and commanded the forces of the Starfleet Blockade that unsuccessfully tried to hold of a Tholian incursion force into Starfleet controlled areas of the Patch.
On Stardate 60423.8, the Independence, under the command of now-Rear Admiral Cole, was attacked and destroyed by the Tholians while she was escorting transports through the Patch.
Cole and her bridge crew managed to escape in the Captain's Yacht but several crew members suffered severe injuries. Cole's first officer, in their haste to evacuate to the more intact civilian freighter SS Sheehan, failed to properly shut down the Yacht's damaged warp core, causing a radiation leak to sicken, then kill some of the remaining crew and civilians.
With the help of Lieutenant Biederman and merchant Captain Rufus Donnell, Cole managed to create a warp flare using the yacht's damaged warp drive as a last ditch effort to save her crew. While the flare was successful in alerting the search teams to locate and rescue the survivors, Biederman died before it was initiated, and the added radiation caused by the flare killed Donnell and fatally poisoned Cole. This was despite the efforts of Donnell to attempt to shield her from the radiation with his own body. Cole was still alive when rescued by the USS Angelfire, but due to the severity of the radiation sickness, she died before making it back to Deep Space 12.
